In December 2008, under the Electricity Supply Act 1990, the Government of Malaysia has endorsed the Efficient Management of Electrical Energy Regulations 2008. with this regulation, any installation which receives electrical energy from a licensee or supply authority with total electrical energy consumption equal to or exceeding 3,000,000 kWh over any period not exceeding 6 consecutive months are obligated to designate a registered electrical energy manager and to submit all the required information pertaining to efficient electrical energy management matters in the company to Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga).
In July 2002 Gas Malaysia Sdn. Bhd funded a demonstration plant at Oon Corp Resources (M) Sdn Bhd rubber glove factory in Senawang involving a tri-generation system for electrical power, hot water and energy from gas.
Gading Kencana was called to carry out a pre-installation and post installation energy audit of the factory to show case the benefits of the tri-generation system.
The objective of the Audit is to measure the specific energy consumption before and after the installation of a combined heat and power unit (CHP) located in Plant 1 of the factory. The result of the pre-installation audit carried out in June 2002 audit was then compared with the result of the post-installation audit carried out in November 2002.Based on the data collected during the two audits, the specific energy consumption (for electricity and power) of the gloves produced has been calculated and the results are as follows:-
In the November 2002, under the Malaysian Industrial Energy Efficiency Improvement Program (MIEEIP), 12 successful Energy Services Companies were chosen to carry out energy audits of selected Federal Government buildings. Gading Kencana was selected to carry out an energy audit of Wisma Persekutuan in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. The 13 storey office block with 14,864 m² floor area was constructed in the mid 1970s has housed various Federal Government Ministries and agencies.
“No cost” measures recommended involves simple housekeeping procedures that should be followed by the occupants as well as regular maintenance of energy consuming equipment such as the air-conditioners. These measures alone would save up to 20% savings on energy bills.

In July 2007, Gading Kencana was awarded the the task of carrying out energy efficiency studies of IWK’s 5 sewage treatment plants located in the Klang Valley. The 5 treatment plants represent the samples of IWK plants all over Peninsular Malaysia.
The biggest consumer of power in the plants are the pumps. Part of the energy efficiency moves recommended by Gading Kencana are the variation of pumps speed and pumps operation timing as the “no cost” measures. IWK would be able to save 15-20% of its energy consumption by these measures alone. Long term measure would be to change pump capacity when the present pumps reach its end life.
Gading Kencana conducted an energy audit at an industrial PVC resin plant in Johore in November 2007. From the exercise, potential electricity cost savings of 36% and fossil fuel cost of 20% were identified through “no-cost” and “low-cost measures.
The potential CO2 emissions reductions is about 30.3 % through the “no-cost” and “low-cost” measures.
ThePerdana Putra complex consists of an inter-connected 9 core six-storey building comprising of the Main block and flanked by the East and West Wings. In the third quarter of the year 2008, the Public Works Department has assigned Gading Kencana to study the energy consumption scenario of the Perdana Putra building and to determine the potentials of energy optimization.
Through the exercise Gading Kencana has recommended both Active and Passive Energy Saving Measures. “No cost” measures of the Active Saving Measures type alone could save up to 7.5% of annual electricity bill. Passive measures if taken could also save another 7% of chilled water consumption.
Under the purview of the Ministry of Energy, Green technology and Water (KettHA), Gading Kencana conducted an energy audit exercise in April to May 2010.
From the Energy Audit, Energy Indices, Building Envelope (OTTV) and Energy use patterns were identified and compared to available Energy and Building Standards.

In January 2010 Gading Kencana was engaged by the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) to provide consultancy for the preparation the of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RE & EE) Blueprint to support its vision as a “Strong Sustainable Conurbation of International Standing”.
The Blueprint enables IRDA to foster RE and EE in its development. It also identifies potential initiatives for RE and EE, world class best practices to adopt and implementation plans until the year 2025.
